Exterior painting in Dublin: planning around the weather

Define the exterior scope

List the front, rear and side elevations separately. Add window surrounds, doors, railings, garden walls or sheds only if you want them included. Photographs taken from ground level help show access restrictions and surface condition.

Explain whether the rear garden can be reached without going through the house and whether parked vehicles or neighbouring properties affect access. Do not climb to inspect high areas yourself.

Ask about preparation

Point out flaking paint, cracks and recurring damp patches during the survey. Ask which preparation and repair tasks are included and whether other work needs to happen first. Painting over an unresolved building defect can leave you paying for the same area twice.

Agree how weather changes are handled

Avoid planning another dependent job immediately after a promised finish date without allowing flexibility. If several elevations are involved, discuss whether the work can be phased sensibly.

Confirm the finish before ordering

Use a sample viewed outside to compare the main wall colour with the roof, brickwork and neighbouring surfaces. Specify the trim separately. For a front door, identify the material first: a timber door and a factory-finished composite door should not automatically be treated as the same painting job.

Request a complete quotation
